Australia Day:Fireworks plans up in the air
Editor:www.fireworkstown.com         Feb 29,2012

LOVERS of pyrotechnics can breathe a sigh of relief as Warwick Tourism and Events (WTE) have no plans to waste this year's cancelled Australia Day fireworks.

WTE chief executive officer Tracy Vellacott said the cancellation was due to the wet weather at the time.

"Because the weather was so poor over that period there was no way they could have been fired off," Mrs Vellacott said yesterday.

"They have a shelf life of 12 months so we don't have to rush into anything.

"There is no point blowing them up just for the sake of blowing them up."

Obvious but unsuitable events for the fireworks to be set off at include the Warwick Show, the Warwick Rodeo and New Year's Eve.

"The Warwick Show already has its own fireworks in place as they bring in a contractor each year," Mrs Vellacott said.

"We have considered the rodeo but you can't mix explosives with live animals.

"New Year's Eve is also an option but with last year's success we would rather see people supporting local events such as the one held at Allora."

Mrs Vellacott said no decision had been made at this point.

"They really need to be attached to an event where the community will come out to support it, not just on a night where everyone comes, watches and leaves," she said.
